So Monday evening G and I went to the open house at the Pediatrician's office. We know it's where we want to go - but it was nice to meet the doctors, ask some questions and take a tour of the office. The open house was literally about half an hour so it didn't take up too much time.
Yesterday I had my 32 week check-up. Greg called last minute and said he was swamped at work and couldn't get away. I told him it was fine - and that I'd call as soon as I got finished. The appointment was at 11:50. I got there at 11:40. Was called back around 11:55 and the nurse checked my weight, BP and baby's heart rate (139). She said the doctor would be in shortly to see me. Well, 15 minutes later the nurse pops back in and says "we are running behind today, we haven't forgotten about you - he'll be in with you in just a bit". So, I wait. And I wait. And wait some more. Another 20 minutes to be exact. Finally doctor comes in, chats for a minute and then measures me - right on track. And feels for baby - he was pretty sure Baby Lane was head down - but they don't care about baby's position until 37 weeks.
Finger's crossed baby will be head down! We go back on February 5th for our 34 week check-up. Then we'll be back at 36 weeks - and then every week after that.
Some questions I had for doctor today:
(FYI: each practice may answer these questions differently!)
1) So, if baby is breech or transverse at my checks, would you try to turn baby and when would you do that?
We will check at 37 weeks. That's when we really care how baby is positioned. If baby is breech, we will give you the option of having us turn him. If you'd prefer, we'd do a c-section. Or we'd do a c-section if we cannot turn baby. It's really best if we don't deliver vaginally if baby is breech. It's doable, but not preferable. Week 37 is when we'd figure that out.
2) If my due date comes and still no baby, how far will you let me go before inducing?
At a 40 week appointment, if baby still isn't here - we'd schedule induction for around 41 weeks. (give or take a day or so to get you in at the hospital). Even with that, we'd hope baby would arrive on his own between 40 weeks and that induction date.
The craziest part about the visit...as soon as doctor came in, he says "Well, you're getting close! 32 weeks. If you went into labor two weeks from now, we wouldn't even try to stop it."
OH MY GOSH. WE'RE HAVING A BABY. AND IT'S COMING SOON. LIKE REALLY SOON.
Yes, we've know for some time that baby is coming...but all of a sudden - it got really real in that doctor's room yesterday.
The things we have to take care of over the next couple of weeks. I'll keep you posted on our progress.
