31 weeks - Childbirth Class #1 Complete

So, we're officially down to the single digit number count down of weeks left! Crazy town.

Last night we went to our first class at REX. G met me at my work, we ate Cinelli's in North Hills, ran to Target really quick and made it with 15 minutes to spare to the class.

We were the second couple to arrive - and then more couples started to come in. Everyone had a yoga mat and pillows...well, everyone except us. Seriously, they should tell you to bring this stuff. The good thing: the mat and pillows were only used for about 5 minutes at the very end of the class. So, as long as we have them for the others I think we're okay.

I should also mention that there were 12 couples in this class. And the room is not THAT big for all these pregnant people and their spouses to be laying on the floor.

The class started with everyone introducing themselves: when are you due, where do you work, where is your practice, is it a boy or a girl, etc. I mean, we will be spending another four 2-hour classes with these people so we might as well get to know one another. Two women in the class are having girl TWINS...so, the odds of twins must be more common than we thought since two out of twelve women in there are having them.

The class was mostly an overview of what we'll learn in the other classes. However we did learn some positions to try and get baby's head fitted properly in the pelvis for birth. Yes, they even made the men practice doing this. G was a little uncomfortable...when it came time to lie on the floor in the dark (on G's coat since we had no mat or pillows), I thought G would burst out laughing as the teacher said: "breath deeply, together...let it out...think about happy thoughts...spoon each other...relax". Nothing says relax like 24 people strangers, on one floor, spooning in the dark.

And, when she said "feel the contraction" - I am thinking: I don't feel anything? And, I am not sure (yet) what those feel like.....this lady is crazy. But, the class was helpful - and I am sure the classes get more interesting as time goes on. One down - four to go.

  1. Haha! I'm just imagining that scene in the birthing class room. I remember it well--awkward! I cannot believe baby Lane will be here so soon. We cannot wait to meet him!!!

  2. You're getting so close! I don't think you should think about "feeling the contraction" until you have to! My biggest concern during our class (we had a one Saturday speed course) was where do we park and what door do we come in? :)
