We ate our way through the fair.

Weekend Recap:

Before I tell you about our actual "weekend" let me tell you about our Thursday night. We went to the NC State Fair and it was just as wonderfully awesome as it always is. I am never disappointed. Here's what we did (or at least what I snapped a photo of):

We saw the animals: cows and little pigs were the best. We had our 50 cent Mt. Olive, NC pickles. We walked through the midway and checked out the rides (but did not ride). We ate NC State Ice Cream (THE BEST ICE CREAM IN THE WORLD #notevenkidding) - G had chocolate and peanut butter - I had pecan krunch. We stopped by the Hot Wisconsin Cheese stand and G got his favorite fried mozzarella sticks.
Not pictured: we ate an actual "meal" at the NC Pork Council's Pork Chop Shop, we strolled through the flower exhibit, we critiqued a lot of kids art. We met up with our friends Brandon and Adam and then had some fried pickles, deep fried cinnamon rolls with bacon (which I tried at media days) and G tried deep fried Reese's Cups (which he thought were gross). The only thing I skipped: Al's French Fries (I had them while at the fair volunteering on Thursday during the day) and corn on the cob - I just wasn't feeling it. Here are some of our tips/things to keep in mind that the group of us came up with while at the fair:
  1. Do not go to the fair expecting everyone to look like a Hollywood star. Hello, this is about agriculture people, not pop culture. The fair is for real people. And it's for everyone. Yes, even those who only leave their town once a year to show their horse off at the State Fair.
  2. The NC State Ice Cream line is going to be really long. You should expect that from a place that has the best ice cream on earth. Don't complain about it. Because once you lick that ice cream cone, you are going to regret every negative thing you said about standing in line.
  3. Go hard, or go home. Don't take a break from eating all the fair-food-goodness. If you stop, you will become weak and will not be able to continue eating. This makes you a quitter.
  4. Don't think about the health code standards while at the fair.If you do, it will also make you a quitter.
For the weekend, we had dinner at home on Friday evening and Saturday G worked half a day while I did laundry and some cleaning. We then went to the gym and enjoyed a nice lunch at CFA. That night we went out to dinner (after sittting in the car for 20 minutes waiting for the NC State game to end - they won!), and Sunday we had Sunday School, Church and then visited at my G-ma's house for a while with family before heading home around 6. Hope you had a nice weekend, too!
