Hidden Post Series: We told our parents.

Monday, July 23, 2012:
My parents came over for dinner on Saturday night. We couldn't decide if we wanted to tell them early in the evening (before dinner) or after eating...we decided on after eating because they would be sitting next to each other at the table.

How did we tell them? Well, I printed out 6-7 photos (5x7 size) from Target from our trip to Disney. I said, "I know you saw our photos online already, but I printed some out if you want one of them?" So, my mom and dad start to flip through them and I am telling them "that's when we were at Magic Kingdom, that's us with a statue in front of the Haunted Mansion..." and there was one more photo, at the very end that was a photo of our positive pee test stick...and I added the words "Estimated Due Date: March 28, 2013" under it. It took them just one second and my dad says "are you telling us something?" and then my mom says "Are you really!?!?!" and I am crying and nodding - and they both start to cry and hug me (G is putting desserts on the plates right across from them) and he is grinning from ear to ear. So, then they ask the typical questions: when did you find out, have you been to the doctor, etc. I had to make them promise not to tell anyone for a couple more weeks - that we want to make sure the first ultrasound shows a heart beat before we tell anyone else in the family. And, that when we are ready to share, that we want to be the ones sharing the news. They promised...so we're hoping the secret is safe with them!

It's pretty much all we talked about for the rest of the evening with them...they are really happy for us and really excited. We can't wait to share the news with G's mom and dad on her birthday!

So, yesterday was the MIL's b-day. We decided to have them over and cook and surprise them. However, we decided at the last minute it would just be easier to go out to eat. So, they got to our house. I told G it was his choice on how to tell them (since they are his parents). And he got a birthday card for her. (We had already given her birthday gift to her at Sunday lunch) He wrote something sweet inside that said "we have another gift but it won't be ready until 9 months from now" (or something similar). The best part is, his mom left her glasses in the car, so it took her a little longer to actually "get it" - but when she did, she was very excited. G's dad has been talking about us having a baby for a while now, so needless to say, they are super excited. We also told them we wouldn't be sharing the good news with any other family for at least a few more weeks - until after the next ultrasound. And even then, we may wait another week or two.

We ended up eating dinner at Outback and getting Cold Stone afterwards - which are two of our favorite things, that we picked - even though it wasn't our birthday - his mom didn't mind a bit!
