So, back in March/April, our friend Kathleen offered up a week at a beach house that she had bid on at a charity event. She was unable to go and hoped that a friend would be willing to go, enjoy it in her place and pay the rent. We were willing - and chose last week as our week of freedom. Lucky for us, our good friends Jami & Steve went in with us so we (G & I) paid a whole $300 for a week at a pretty sweet beach house. We were excited to get away and be lazy for a week at the beach.
So, last Sunday G, myself and Jami packed up and headed to Holden Beach. We stopped for a quick bite to eat on the way down and made it to the house around 9:30pm. We unpacked, hung out for a while and then hit the hay. Monday morning we got up, worked out and then went grocery shopping. We got back to the house and made it out to the beach around lunch time. It was beautiful weather - not just Monday, but everyday. The only day that was a bit cloudy and cool was Friday. Otherwise, it looked like this:
Late Monday evening Jami's husband Steve came down. So, we hit the beach again on Tuesday:
Later on Tuesday my brother, Nick, came down. He didn't arrive until bed time - but, the boys had a good time on Wednesday - they fished, played bocce ball, and drank a few beers:
On Wednesday night we went out to dinner to the Provision Company - so good.
We then stopped at an ice cream place (that will remain nameless) where we had SUPER ice cream but a horrible/bad attitude scooper. Still a good time.
Thursday, Nick & G got up early to go fishing - they didn't catch much. Nick had to head out at lunch time to get back home.
On Friday our friend Allison came down with the dogs! The weather wasn't great - but the company was perfect!
Friday evening Jami & Steve's son Brett came down with his buddy Tucker - we ate dinner, played cards, and then had a nice day on the beach again on Saturday:
On Saturday evening we went down to Ocean Isle where Allison's dad has a house. We stopped by for a little over an hour to enjoy some appetizers and drinks. Then we stopped at Sharky's for dinner:
Greg also caught two fish - but Nick wasn't there to witness it. So, here's the proof:
As a bonus: there was great people watching. Like, the family to our left for 4 days on the beach was Amish. That's right. Amish. We pretty much had made up our own story of what they were doing at the beach, how they got there, who was related to who, etc. But, lucky for us, Steve just went up and talked to them on Friday. He made friends quickly.
We learned they were from Ohio. And, they ride horse and buggy. But, a friend brought them down for vacation. The ladies wore dresses, the kids in home made clothes and the teens were a bit more normal. Perhaps this was a "dating" trip for one young boy and girl. They seemed to flirt a lot. We called the boy Peta - he looked like Peta from Hunger Games - all in fun.
We had the best time. Seriously, it was awesome. The weather was perfect, the beach wasn't crowded. We didn't really make any plans other than going out to dinner twice - and the rest of the time we cooked at the house. We really needed a week to kick back, laugh and enjoy really great company. We are NOT looking forward to being back at work - but, we are rested!
