A whole lotta chicken going on.

Weekend Recap:

G and I started our weekend at about 5:30 Friday afternoon where we helped get ready for the BBQ Chicken Sale at our church. We set up tables, made signs, organized the kitchen, and individually wrapped nearly 1,200 desserts. We were pretty tired.

Saturday morning we got up really early and got to our church for the BBQ Chicken Sale - our day started about 6:30am...G was on hush puppy duty and I was in the kitchen helping make the plates. We had sold almost 900 tickets in advance and had enough food to make 1,150 plates. Y'all...that's a lot of chicken, green beans, potatoes, pound cake and hush puppies. Here are a few photos from the day:
Criag, Greg and Joe making hush puppies.
We had 10 large cookers going. They started at 5am - so I guess I technically slept in.
Don't mess with men and their cooking.
I didn't eat any chicken. However, I did eat my weight in these things.
These sweet ladies collected money/tickets from those who dined in.
The finished product. (Except we separated the hush puppies with a paper liner - we staged this for photo purposes.
The day was a success! We didn't get home until almost 9....it made for a really short weekend for us. We had a really good time helping our church and seeing a lot of all of our town come and eat BBQ chicken!
Things I learned while helping out with this event:
  1. I was not cut out for kitchen line work which is probably why I don't work in a cafeteria.
  2. Scooping potatoes is a lot harder than green beans.
  3. You can never give people enough hush puppies or sauce for their chicken. Both of these things are like crack.
  4. After you help with something like this you do not want chicken, potatoes or beans for a really, really, really long time. However, you want pound cake like never before.
Sunday we went to service at church and then had Mexican for lunch with a few other members of the BBQ Chicken Sale team to celebrate. We then visited my g-ma, stopped by the grocery store, did a round of P90X and then watched some trashy TV. Hope you had a fun weekend!

  1. That IS a lot of chicken going on! I love that you are involved in this part of your church's life.

Thanks so much for your comment on my blog. Sounds like you've got a great guy there. My husband surprised me with a piece of my pink dishes our first married Valentine's Day. It seemed like a great sentimental gift to me!
