I spent all day Saturday and a good portion of the day on Sunday interviewing kids for a $5,000 yearly scholarship. I am on a committee that read through almost 100 applications - which was narrowed down last Saturday to 20 seniors that we brought in to interview. It was a LONG weekend - but, very rewarding. Sometimes I think that "kids these days" don't work, they don't volunteer, they just play video games all day - but not these kids. They have perfect grades, play 2-3 sports, volunteer and most of them worked 10-20 hours a week - and got in to some great schools (Duke, MIT, Yale, UNC, NCSU, etc.). Not to mention that 75% of the 20 we brought in have had to deal with some tough stuff...like losing a parent, having a liver transplant, brittle bone disease, torn ACLs, etc. But at the end of the day, we picked 10 awesome kids who will receive this money to further their education. Afterwards, I told G the following: our kids WILL work (nothing crazy - but they need to learn how earn money, save and appreciate cash), they WILL volunteer (something where they are helping others and learning how lucky they are), and they WILL say "yes ma'am/sir, no ma’am/sir” because we were all suckers for the kids with great manners.
Other than that, G and I had a date night on Saturday and went to Bella Monica. If you’ve never been you are missing out. Great wine and beer, and great PASTA. G has been taking this P90X thing seriously meaning he is not eating carbs for the first month. This means my dinners are carb free. Do you know how hard that is!? So, I finally convinced him to use his cheat night on PASTA. It was awesome and I sure have missed noodles with cheese and red sauce!
While I was at the scholarship interviews, G did a lot of yard work – new knockout rose bushes were planted! He also cleaned the house since I was gone – thank goodness. Not only was I worn out from being gone all day but my legs are STILL sore from the leg and back P90X thing on Thursday. G may be a little obsessive when it comes to these workouts…that or I am just not that interested. Ha! Hope you all had great weekends!
