Baby Stuff - Part 5

Okay - a few things we currently like. I am writing this to share with other moms and to help us remember if we're blessed with another baby one day.

Huggies OverNights
These have changed our nights forever. We had about a 3-4 week period where Will was waking through the night and we partly blamed growth spurts, him learning new things (to sit up, crawl, etc.) or just having separation anxiety. And, he would be wet. Not just a soaked diaper - but his shirt, pants and sleep sack. So, we got these. In his diaper size and didn't notice a change. What the heck?! These are supposed to be overnights. Should we call the doctor? Is our child peeing too much? (These are the questions I had) Then, this lovely other mom (of two children) told me the secret. You have to buy the overnights...IN A SIZE UP from your normal size. And then the angels came out of the clouds and since then, no more wet clothes in the morning. And coincidentally he sleeps better, too.

Highland Teething Tablets
Okay - first - I am going to say that I heard mixed reviews on these things. We've been using them for about two months when we think Will is getting a tooth. The directions say up to three tablets up to six times a day (I think). I usually only give him three when he's going down for a nap or bed time. And honestly, I am still not sure they work. HOWEVER...they could be doing something, so I continue to give them to him. (again, not that often). We currently only have 3 teeth (and we're pretty sure another is on it's way in now) but he's drooling like crazy. And new parents: you'll think your kid is chewing hard core and drooling hard core around 3-4 months...like we did. BUT, there is a difference when they're teething which for us really started at 6 months.

We have the two central incisors (which came in first, back to back in about 2-3 weeks). Then we got a top lateral incisor - and we are pretty sure the one on it's way in is the other top lateral incisor. Our child may really want his two front teeth for Christmas! :)

And, just so you know what to look for - not only will your baby be a bit fussy/drooly/chewy - something like this will show up on his gum:

If you look close, you can see the bottom left middle tooth - there is a small little "hole" in the gum. That's a tooth coming through the skin! Basically what I have figured is when you see this, your child is feeling the most discomfort. After about 4-7 days of seeing this - you'll see a shiny white tooth coming through and at that point, pain should be behind you...unless you spot a "hole" right after, in another spot!

Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy
Will recently has gotten pretty dry skin (due to having the heat on, cold weather out side) - and I picked up this lotion. It's great. His little dry skin has disappeared! I still put this stuff on his face - and I'm still a HUGE fan of aquaphor! But this is great on legs, arms and for his little hands.

This toy. Okay, so we don't have this exact one - but he loves this thing. He likes pushing the things down and the little knobs are easy to use. He doesn't know how to use them - but, he accidentally does hit them correctly and the pop up. It's great. And let's be honest. He'd prefer the water bottle I'm drinking out of to any fancy toy we offer him currently.

Playtex Sipster Cup
Y'all...Will drinks from a sippy cup now. It's crazy. Not all the time - just a bit of water and breakfast/lunch/dinner. This is a hard skill to master...sucking from something that's not a nipple and you have to work for it - unlike the bottle/nipple that comes naturally to babies. We practiced for a few days at home with him. We had to pull out the plastic piece inside that keeps it from spilling to show him "hey, there's something in here" - and one night, he just got it. So now he gets it home with meals and at daycare. Also, while he wasn't feeling well and I was home with him - he didn't eat great. So I'd offer him some sips of water through the day to keep him hydrated. These cups have been great for us so far. I am sure we'll pick a new one soon without the handles, but for now, they work as they should and our Inch Bug lables work on them perfectly.
