Last night we attended a breastfeeding class at Rex. It was 2 hours long - but very informative. I thought the lady teaching did a great job explaining all the benefits - but also told us that if breastfeeding doesn't work, you can pump. And if that isn't working, you can formula feed - and that's okay.
It was a little awkward at first - I'm not going to lie. There were probably 20 couples in the room and when you watch a 20 minute video of different holds and correct latches and incorrect latches, you can't help but feel a little uncomfortable. Especially around G. He's never been around anyone who was breastfeeding - and if he has been, he completely ignored it and pretended to not notice.
I think he has a better understanding of how valuable it is to at least TRY to breastfeed. I think he'll be very supportive and do whatever he can to make it easier on me. He was totally amazed at the videos of these babies latching on and how they knew exactly what to do. He couldn't believe how they have this instinct to nurse right at birth.
I totally recommend going to one of these classes. It was two hours of information that we now have ahead of time before baby comes. Hoping this will give us a bit of a "head start" when we try for the first time. At least we'll know some basics and some valuable resources to turn to if we hit some bumps in the road!
It is amazing the way G-d created us so perfectly to supply our babies with what they need. And the way(most)babies come into the world knowing what to do is incredible. But don't get discouraged if it takes some time. Some babies get the hang of it right away and others take longer.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's getting so close!! I have to see you soon! :)
